All our products are directly or indirectly related to the deer (cervus elaphus). With an estimation of more than 500,000 deer spreading throughout the Spanish geography, the area where Antlers Nature S.L. carries out its activity has the highest density of these animals.
For its mystique, beauty, majesty, and charm, this animal is called the king of the forest. This large herbivore shows sexual dimorphism; the females are smaller than the males. Females live in herds with dozens of specimens, while males live in much smaller groups. These males only approach the females in the mating season (between August and September), at this time they show the phenomenon called bellowing, consisting in the emission of sounds by the males to conquer the female harem. This ritual is for the strongest male to compete for his territory and impose his genetic lineage on the herd in nature.
Deer and Fallow Deer Antlers
Shedding antlers annually and innately is an unprecedented phenomenon for most animals but not for red deer and fallow deer. This event is called desmogue. From this moment the animal begins to form new antlers, which are bigger and heavier than before and will shed again in the following spring in a continuing repeatedly cycle throughout its life.
Deer and fallow deer antlers are highly valued raw materials for various functions such as for decoration, crafts or cutlery, but most of all for medicine and pet care thanks to their multiple properties.
They are categorized by quality, classified from A to G; each category depends on the freshness of the product, its aesthetic appearance or the species to which it belongs. Antlers Nature markets all kinds of products derived from deer. These types of products, mostly from the Sierra de Hornachuelos Natural Park, are obtained immediately after the death of the animal. After a first postmortem inspection by a registered veterinarian and under strict sanitary and hygienic measures, the deer are transported by refrigerated transport to the slaughterhouse.
Its processing is carried out entirely in authorized, approved facilities and under the strict supervision of qualified technical personnel. They follow the most advanced quality standards, verification, and inspection, endorsed by the Spanish official authorities competent in the matter. With rigorous compliance with the cold chain, we guarantee the quality and safety of our products from their origin to the time of delivery, so that our customers can be assured that they receive a totally safe product, processed following international standards as below:
- CCQI (Cold Chain Quality Indicators): This is the standard that marks the requirements to be met by companies that handle perishable products, establishing improvements in the management of the cold chain. This standard has been published by the GCAA (Global Cold Chain Alliance)
- IARW (International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses)
